Hello Holy Cross Families!
If you are receiving this message, you have a student registered to enter 4th - 8th grade. This means that your child is invited to participate in Cross Country! Cross Country is our longest-running sport at Holy Cross and has a great deal of history.
For those of you who do not know me, my name is Candace McMullan. This will be my 12th year at Holy Cross. I am a part-time STEM teacher in Middle School. I love all things science...and athletics! I am honored to continue coaching the cross country team this year.
We have many amazing developments coming for HC Cross Country, and I look forward to sharing those with you at our parent meeting. (Parent meeting date will be sent in a separate email).
What is required for Cross Country?
Completed and uploaded physical forms (attached to this email with more information below)
Practice 3 days a week: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday (typically 4-5 PM at Holy Cross)
Running shoes, weather appropriate running clothes, and a water bottle. Some athletes choose to purchase and wear distance running spikes for the races.
Positive attitude to train for our 3K (1.86 mile) races!
Meets 1 to 2 days a week: Schedule is posted and will be updated as necessary on our website
Opportunities to share snacks and/or drinks with the team after meets (sign-up Genius found here and on our website)
Opportunities to assist with meets at Horizon, and a potential FIRST Home meet!
Summer Fun Runs!
We realize that running may not be everyone's cup of tea. However, kids do often enjoy the team involvement and feelings of accomplishment that come with cross country. Prior to the season beginning, we will host three NON-MANDATORY fun runs. All incoming 4th-8th grade students are welcome to attend IF your child's physical is uploaded
Wednesday, July 20th at Riverside Intermediate School: 5:00 - 6:00 PM
11014 Eller Road, Fishers, IN - We will meet in the back by the small playground/basketball courts.
Tuesday, July 25th @ Brooks School Park: 5:00 - 6:00 PM
11780 Brooks School Road - We will meet under the pavilion
Third Date/location TBD - dependent on parent meeting
CC Roster and Team Spirit Shirts:
All cross country athletes will receive a spirit shirt. If you are committed to Cross Country for this season please go to this link to record the names of all your children participating in Cross Country and which size(s) are needed for spirit shirt(s).
Additional Notes:
Our official season is short! (August 10 - September 30th). Though it is not expected or required for athletes to begin running prior to our first official practice, some runs or other forms of physical activity (bike riding, lap swimming, jumprope, etc.) would be beneficial to their training for our short season.
Communication:
Weekly emails reviewing the week’s schedule will be sent, quick announcements will be made on GroupMe, and the website will contain our Sign-up Genius, calendar, meet results, and record information.

IHSAA Physical Information:
Students participating in sports will need to complete an 2023-24 IHSAA Pre-Participation Evaluation Form (PPE) and complete the Holy Cross Athletic Forms Google Form. There are 3 different forms in the PPE Packet: 1 - History Form to be signed by athlete and parent, 2 - Physical Exam Form to be signed by a Health Care Professional and 3 - Consent and Release Certificate to be signed by student and parent. ALL THREE forms are needed. Physical Examination must be performed on or after April 1st each year, by a health care professional holding an unlimited license to practice medicine, a nurse practitioner or physician assistant to be valid for the upcoming school year.
You can submit your student athlete's PPE Packet and complete the Holy Cross Athletic Forms HERE.
Thank you, and I look forward to seeing some of you on July 20th!
Blessings,
Coach McMullan
