This is a summary of the expectations and processes. For full rules and expectations please review the full syllabus found on this website and the student handbook.
Daily Routine
Bell-to-Bell Instruction: Our class operates from the moment the bell rings until the final bell. Every minute is valuable, and we will be engaged in learning activities daily, without exception. This includes days preceding school breaks.
"Do Now" Warm-up: Upon entering the classroom, students are expected to be in their assigned seats with all materials and immediately begin the daily "Do Now" (warm-up or bell-ringer). This must be completed quietly and independently.
Classroom Rules
Be On Time and Prepared: Arrive to class on time with all necessary materials.
Respectful Behavior: Be polite and respectful to yourself, your peers, and the teacher at all times.
Respect for Property: Do not touch other people's belongings or anything on the teacher's desk without explicit permission.
Stay Seated: Remain in your assigned seat unless otherwise instructed.
Dismissal: The teacher, not the bell, will dismiss the class. Do not pack up or leave your seat until instructed.
Follow School Rules: All district and campus rules and policies are to be followed at all times.
Tardy, Absence & Late Work Policy
Tardy Policy: Students are considered tardy if they are not physically inside the classroom when the bell rings. The door will be closed at the sound of the bell. Students who arrive late must go to the office to get a tardy pass. A tardy pass time-stamped longer than 5 minutes will be considered skipping, resulting in a disciplinary referral.
Absence Policy: In the event of any absence (excused, unexcused, or school-related), it is the student's responsibility to contact the teacher immediately upon returning to class to get missed assignments and confirm new due dates.
Late Work Policy: All assignments are given with ample time for completion, so late work is not accepted unless a student has a valid excused absence.
Technology & Device Policy
Permitted Devices: Only school-issued devices are allowed in class. Personal laptops or iPads are not permitted unless specific permission is granted.
Screen Monitoring: School devices will be monitored to ensure they are used exclusively for school-related activities.
Consequences for Misuse: Using your device for social media or non-academic activities will result in the device being collected immediately. Using a VPN will result in the device being confiscated and turned over to administration.
Device Charging: Students are expected to charge their school-issued devices at home. Plugging in a device in class is not permitted without first asking for permission.
College Algebra
Each class session will typically include a review of notes for a specific section or, occasionally, a discussion of quizzes, tests, or labs. I allow 6 (six) full days for assignments to be completed, excluding test days. This timeframe should provide ample opportunity to complete your college-level assignments. If you know you'll be absent, please do not wait until the last minute to submit your work, as you will have had a full 6 days to complete it.
In order to foster a productive and respectful learning environment, I expect all students to adhere to the following guidelines:
Active Participation: Students should engage in class discussions, activities, and ask questions when they need clarification. Participation is crucial to your success in this college-level course.
Time Management & Preparedness: Be prepared for each class session by completing assigned readings, homework, and reviewing previous lessons. Staying on top of coursework will ensure you keep up with the material and succeed.
Respect & Collaboration: Treat all peers, the instructor, and the course materials with respect. Collaboration is encouraged for group assignments and peer discussions, but individual responsibility for your work is essential.
Punctuality & Attendance: Regular attendance and being on time are critical for staying current with the material. If you must miss a class, be sure to catch up on missed content and homework. Communication about absences is appreciated.
Assignment Submission: Complete and submit assignments on time. Late work may not be accepted unless there is a valid reason and prior communication. For each assignment, I give a deadline of 6 (SIX) days for the assignment to be turned in. If you are going to be out of school, it is your responsibility to get your assignments turned in prior to the deadline.
Use of Technology: Laptops, calculators, and other devices should be used appropriately for course-related activities only. Please avoid distractions during class time.
Academic Integrity: Plagiarism or cheating of any kind will not be tolerated. All work submitted must be your own, and any outside sources must be properly cited.
Seek Help When Needed: If you're struggling with any aspect of the course, reach out for help—whether through office hours, peer study groups, or additional resources.
By maintaining these expectations, we can create an environment conducive to learning and success in this challenging and rewarding course.
