Spanish 3 and Spanish 3 Honors
Course description: This is a two semester course designed to further strengthen proficiency of listening, reading, speaking and writing skills. There is a review of previously learned materials, for Spanish 3-H, at a more advanced level. Students will continue to be exposed to literary works. Students will use a wide range of instructional materials that include authentic written texts, such as newspaper and magazine articles, literary texts, and other nontechnical writings that develop students' reading abilities. Students will have regular opportunities in class to develop their speaking skills in a variety of settings, types of discourse, topics, and registers.
Students will prepare to advance to Spanish IV and/or depending on students' individual level they will be recommended and prepared for AP Spanish Language & Culture Exam in the spring.
Students will use various internet resources for helping them to supplement and vary the kind of integrated resources presented to the students. It is important that the students realize that integrating skills is not just and expectation for the class but a necessary daily life application in communication.
Students will be required to complete cultural and language projects outside the classroom both for independent growth according to personal interest and also to make important culture connections and comparisons.

Student Responsibilities:
Spanish will be spoken in class!
Required material must be brought to class every day. Come to class on time, prepared and ready to learn. Any student who is tardy must get a tardy pass to re-enter class. Each tardy pass will result in lunch/after school detention. Repeated instances of tardies will result in disciplinary actions, in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
School policies are enforced (tardy, dress code, phones).
All out of class assignments and exercises are due at the beginning of class.

For cheating on anything, you will be given a “0” on the assignment. If I see you copying someone else’s work, neither of you will receive credit for the assignment.
AI-based tools will only be used with parent and teacher consent. You must not use AI-based tools to cheat on assignments or assessments. You must not use AI-based toolsl to plagiarize without citation. Google translated assignments will not be allowed for submission. See HCISD policy on acceptable tools below.
Late assignments will not be accepted unless teacher approves and with a penalty.
When absent, please obtain any information, lecture notes, handouts, assignments, etc from the teacher. It is your responsibility to get the grades for the missing assignments. A student is responsible for obtaining and completing the makeup work in a satisfactory manner and within the time specified by the teacher. A student who does not make up assigned work within the time allotted will receive a grade of a zero for the assignment.
Restroom pass should not be abused. In accordance with HB 1481 students are not allowed to have phones on restroom breaks. Pass can be removed at teacher/principal discretion. Spanish phrases will be used to be allowed out. Do NOT ask to go out the first and last 15 minutes of class (school policy). Students are responsible to sign out and in.
Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated, school policy will be enforced.

Grading Critera: The average of the unit tests, and projects/performances will be 25% of the quarter grade. All other assignments such as daily work, quizzes, homework, oral and written reports, class participation, and any other assignment will count as 75% of the quarter grade.
Expect a minimum of 12 grades with 2 major summative assessments per quarter and 2 Semester Finals for the year.
The final grade will be the average of the two semester grades.
