How can you help yourself learn the most while you study?
Everyone has important goals to achieve, and limited time to study. As you work through material in these Kits, you'll find strategies and ideas for how to approach your studying. Pay attention to what works best for you. You can use those strategies to study any content -- in or outside of your English class!
During Independent Learning, pay attention to these things:
Choose the materials and topics that are most important, interesting, or helpful to you. Will this help you achieve your goals? Do you enjoy what you're learning?
Studying in short, repeated sessions is better than studying all at once. It's also important to mix up what you are studying, and practice things in different order. This is called interleaving, and it helps what you are learning stick in your brain better!
Think about your thinking! What is helping you? What do you need to do differently to learn better? Keep track of your questions and use them to plan your next study session. Don't try to finish something quickly -- try to learn the most you can from the materials you are studying!
When you finish studying something, how do you know if you learned it? Check yourself! Close the book (or website) and write down everything your remember. Give yourself a quiz! See what you learned and what you need to practice more. This will help you get ready for your next study session!
