Assessment Day, Session V, Recording from 3/24/21 - The Language of Equity: Do Our Documents Engage Who We Think They Engage?

with Michelle Riberdy, Kim Straceski, Sarah Gilleman, and Klara Karol

How do words produce or reduce equity? Do our documents say what we think they say? What does it mean to redesign a document with the student in mind? In this workshop, we’ll look at several examples of documents and revise them with an equity lens. You’ll have an opportunity to learn about the process and ask questions.

Coaching Skills for Leaders

Presentation by Lea Occhialini Ombudsperson and Chief Culture Officer

Whether it's in team meetings, a task force, or the classroom, groups of people working together generate both positive and negative group dynamics. In this 1.5 hour interactive workshop, we will practice skills to increase trust, creativity and other positive group dynamics, as well as ways to identify and address common issues that lead to negative dynamics. Unresponsive group or group with unequal participation? Problem with a person who dominates conversation, talks off-subject or is a regular "naysayer"? These common issues and others will be explored.

In recent months, many educational institutions across the US needed to quickly develop strategies that enabled remote learning and kept students and faculty safe. According to an analysis from Education Week, 74% of the 100 largest school districts and 49% of all districts opened with remote learning – affecting more than 9 million students. Remote learning and innovation in education will more than likely continue well into the future, and educational institutions now have the opportunity to streamline administrative processes to better improve the student experience, while also reducing regulatory burden, risk and using paper based forms.
