Dr. Jace Vickers is a distinguished music educator and performer serving as the Director of Bands at Ashford High School, where he leads the “Sound of the Wiregrass” Marching Band, the Ashford High School Wind Ensemble, and the Ashford Middle School Concert Band. A native of Ashford, Alabama, Dr. Vickers returned to his home state in 2025 following a successful tenure as Director of Bands at Early County High School in Georgia. Under his leadership AHS and AMS bands have enjoyed success in competitions, community engagements, and honor band placements.
Prior to his work in secondary education, Dr. Vickers spent five years as Assistant Professor of Music, Assistant Director of Bands, and Chair of the Department of Performing Arts at East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. During his time in higher education, he taught applied low brass, founded the first collegiate British-style Brass Band in Oklahoma, and led groups in numerous conference and competition performances. His commitment to student success is evidenced by the numerous accolades achieved by his pupils, including successful auditions for All-State ensembles, graduate assistantships at prestigious universities, and professional placements in the music industry.
An accomplished low brass specialist, Dr. Vickers holds a Doctor of Musical Arts and a Master of Music from the University of Oklahoma, as well as a Bachelor of Music Education from Troy University. As a performer, he is a member of the world-renowned Fountain City Brass Band, contributing to multiple first-place finishes at the North American Brass Band Championships and the Gateway Brass Band Competition. As a solo performer, he has been featured in lecture-recitals at International College Music Society conferences in Belgium, numerous other national conference performances, and appearances as a guest soloist with numerous university and community ensembles.
