Early Postsecondary Opportunities, or EPSOs are classes that allow student to earn postsecondary credit while still in high school. EPSOs ensure that students are ready to take full advantage of the Tennessee Promise and succeed in education and training after high school.

Advanced Placement is a nationally recognized program from The College Board that offers college-level high school courses in multiple subjects, culminating with a final exam. Students who score a 3, 4, or 5 on the exam may qualify for credit at participating postsecondary institutions. Students with a score of 3 or higher on at least 2 AP exams plus a 3.0 GPA will graduate with State Distinction.
Dual enrollment (DE) is a postsecondary course, taught either at the postsecondary institution or at the high school, by postsecondary faculty or credentialed adjunct faculty. Students are enrolled both at the high school and at the postsecondary institution. Students earn both high school and postsecondary credit upon successful completion of the course. The dual enrollment grant is one of the Tennessee Education Lottery Scholarships, and it provides grant funding for dual enrollment tuition and fees for eligible students. Students with 12 hours of college credit and a 3.0 GPA will graduate with State Distinction.

An industry certification is earned through CTE programs and courses. High school students who complete career-aligned learning pathways and sit for industry certification exams may use industry certifications to earn credit at postsecondary institutions. Students with a 3.0 GPA and industry certification will graduate with State Distinction.
This is a Tennessee specific opportunity aligned to a local postsecondary institution’s course and exam. Students who pass the exam earn credits that are accepted by that local postsecondary institution only. West High students enrolled in Advanced Computer Applications will have the opportunity to take the exam for INFS 1010 Computer Applications at Walters State. Students who pass the exam may opt to have 3 credit hours for INFS 1010 added to their WSCC transcript.
