Lesson 6

How do I use Google Slides?

You can navigate through Google Slides by clicking on the left hand side. The slides are numbered. You can also tell which slide you are on by noticing the highlighted area on the left and the current slide will be displayed in the center.

Teachers may ask you to edit text on a slide. You will know there is a text box when you go to click and see a blue border appear with squares on the edges. Sometimes they will give you directions like "TYPE HERE." Other times they may just give you a text box to click on. Either way you can select the text box by double clicking on it. When you do that your cursor will appear. Delete the text inside the text box and add your own.

If you delete a text box you can always insert a new one. In the tool bar above the slide there is an icon that has a "T" with a box around it. Click on the insert text icon then take your mouse and draw your text box.

Teachers may ask you to drag and drop pictures or text within Google Slides. First you need to select the picture or text. You will know it is selected when you see the blue box outline the object you are trying to move. Next click and hold the mouse button on top of the picture to move it around in the workspace. Release when the picture or text is where it needs to be placed.

To insert a picture click on the icon that has a "mountain" on it. You can insert a picture from the web or Upload from computer. If you upload from your computer, find the file (wherever it is saved) then click open. The same steps can be found HERE in a different lesson on this site.

When you click on Search the web, a new google search within slides will pop open on the right hand of your screen. Type in a keyword to search for a picture. Scroll up and down to look through the pictures and click on the one you wish to insert into the slides. There will be a blue check mark by the picture you are trying to insert. Next click on the word INSERT at the bottom in the blue banner or drag and drop the picture over into the workspace.

The image may come in larger than necessary. Click on the picture to select it. You will know it is selected when there is a blue box or border around it. Resize the picture by clicking on one of the corners to drag inward.
