High School Community College Programs

Community College: High School Students

Juniors and seniors have the opportunity to take classes at local community college. While these classes will not count toward high school graduation nor appear on your high school transcript, a student can earn community college credit. Students can list community college coursework on their college applications.

Benefits

  • Classes are free for high school students.
  • It’s another way to demonstrate your academic skills.
  • Explore a course outside of the high school curriculum.
  • Earn college credit.
  • Get a taste of college-level coursework.

Steps to Take

This is a general guideline, and steps may vary slightly by community college.

  1. Apply for admission to the local community college you plan to attend.
  2. Browse course catalogue for the semester you plan to attend. Select your top two choices. Make sure you meet the prerequisites.
  3. Complete the Concurrent Enrollment form or petition that allows for 11th and 12th grade students to take a course. Title of document may vary.
  4. Return the Concurrent Enrollment form to the college and followup with next steps on when and how to register for the class.

Below are links to several local community colleges. While these are the most accessible, students are not limited to these campuses, however.
