Arriving

Arriving at Glasgow International Airport and travelling to the meeting venue

The quickest way is by taxi. A single fare is around £32 for the 10 mile journey.
Alternatively, you can take the Airport Express Service 500 bus, operated by First Glasgow into Buchanan Bus station in Glasgow city centre. From here, take the short walk to Buchanan Street subway station (see information below). A single fare on the bus costs £10, or an open 28-day return costs £16.

Note: Airport buses run every 12 minutes during the day and every 15 minutes in the evening from Stance 1 at the Airport and from Stance 46 at Buchanan Bus Station. It is possible to buy a bus ticket onboard using cash or card.

Arriving in Glasgow using alternative airports and travelling to the meeting venue:

Prestwick Airport is 30 miles from Glasgow city centre. Some Ryanair flights arrive here. There is a regular train to Glasgow Central station, which is around 2 miles from the meeting venue. To get to the meeting venue from Glasgow Central Station, take the 5-minute walk to Buchanan Street subway station (see information below).
Edinburgh Airport is 40 miles from Glasgow city centre. There is a direct bus link (Citylink AIR Glasgow service 900) to Buchanan Bus station in Glasgow city centre. From here, take the short walk to Buchanan Street subway station (see information below).

Glasgow subway

The subway is a circular route with two lines: an Outer and Inner circle. All trains stop at all stations. The subway links Glasgow city centre and the West End.

The closest station to the city centre is Buchanan Street (5 minute walk from Central station and Buchanan Bus station).
The closes station to the meeting venue in the West End is Hillhead (5 minute walk).

Single fares cost £1.80 and a day return is £3.30. These can be purchased in all stations. Trains run every 4 minutes, on both lines, at peak time and the service operates between 06:30-23:40 (Monday-Saturday) and 10:00-18:12 on Sunday.

The Glasgow Grosvenor Hotel is a beautiful historic hotel in the West End of Glasgow offering good conferencing facilities with plenty of space for all our meetings.

The hotel is close to the University of Glasgow main campus and on the doorstep of many bars, restaurants and shops, whilst sitting adjacent to Glasgow's Botanic Gardens.

The West End of Glasgow was recently named as one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world by Time Out magazine!

There are plenty of hotels in Glasgow and some of them not far from the meeting venue itself. Other hotels can be found in the city centre which is a short 8-10 minute ride on the Glasgow subway. To be sure to get accommodation in or near the meeting venue, we strongly recommend you book as soon as possible. See options below:

Welcome reception: Tuesday 28th May

18:30 to 20:30 at The Hunterian Museum

We will be hosting a welcome drinks reception serving canapes and drinks in The Hunterian Museum, nestled within the heart of the University of Glasgow. It is Scotland's oldest public museum with a range of fascinating exhibits on show, giving it a unique place within Scotland's cultural heritage. It is a 14-minute walk from the meeting venue or an 8-minute walk from Hillhead subway station. The walk will take you past some of the oldest University buildings including the Bute Hall and the cloisters.

Gala dinner and ceilidh: Wednesday 29th May

19:00 for 19:30 at Òran Mór

Bring your dancing shoes! Dinner (served at 19:30) followed by a ceilidh (band begins at 21:00) will be held at Òran Mór.

Formerly a Church, Òran Mór, Gaelic for ‘great melody of life’ or ‘big song’, is a thriving arts and entertainment venue in the heart of Glasgow’s West End, situated directly opposite the meeting venue.

A ceilidh (pronounced kay-lee) is a social gathering with traditional Scottish music which involves lots of partnered and group dancing. Everyone can join in regardless of ability. Comfortable shoes are recommended and kilts are optional.

Weather

In May, Glasgow typically experiences moderate temperatures with daytime temperatures around 15°C. Scotland often gets warm sunny spells in May interspersed with colder and greyer days. So bring clothes which are suitable for a variety of conditions. It is the month with the least rainfall, but it is advisable to bring a waterproof or umbrella just in case!

The Hunterian Art Gallery: FREE

The art on display includes works by Whistler and Mackintosh, Rembrandt and Rubens, the Glasgow Boys and Scottish Colourists, as well as leading contemporary artists. It also features a significant number of artworks made by women and other artists who have been less well represented.
The Hunterian Mackintosh House: £10

Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh were artists and designers whose style is now world famous. Together they designed their Glasgow home, which was decorated in his distinctive style, remarkable then, and now, for the disciplined austerity of the furnishings and decoration. The Mackintosh House, now an integral part of the Hunterian Art Gallery, is a careful reassemblage of the main rooms from the Mackintoshes’ Glasgow home.
Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum: FREE
Argyle Street, Glasgow, G3 8AG
Home to an incredible array of 8,000 exhibits, spanning everything from a World War II Spitfire to Salvador Dalí's mesmerising Christ of St John of the Cross. Discover dinosaur skeletons, medieval armour, stunning works by the Dutch Old Masters, French Impressionists and the Scottish Colourists. Other highlights include Sir Roger the Elephant, a taxidermy measuring 10.5 feet in height and one of Kelvingrove's most popular exhibits. It's without a doubt a must-visit in Glasgow!
Glasgow Botanic Gardens: FREE

Wander 50 acres of leafy parkland in the heart of the west end at Glasgow Botanic Gardens. Visit Kibble Palace, a magnificent wrought iron-framed Victorian glasshouse filled with exotic tree ferns. You can also step inside the 11 other balmy glasshouses to see rare orchids and a collection of begonias. If you feel like stretching your legs, you can follow the path to reach the riverside walk. This provides a picturesque route through the city towards Kelvingrove Park and the art gallery and museum.
Riverside Museum: FREE
100 Pointhouse Place, Glasgow, G3 8RS
Sometimes described as "Glasgow's Guggenheim", the Riverside Museum is Glasgow's award-winning museum of transport, housed inside a marvellous building designed by architect Zaha Hadid. Inside you'll find a treasure trove of 3,000 exhibits which hark back to the olden days of transport, with everything from tramcars and bone-shaker buses to steam engines and gleaming vintage cars on display. Moored outside is the star exhibit, the Glenlee, a three-masted barque launched in 1896 and one of only five sailing ships built on the River Clyde still afloat.
Pollok Country Park and the Burrell Collection (Art Fund Museum of The Year 2023): FREE

Spanning over 360 acres, Pollok Country Park offers a natural escape on the southern outskirts of the city. What makes it special are the herds of Highland cattle which have been bred on the grounds since 1830, which you can spot almost as soon as you enter the park. Follow the network of waymarked paths through woodlands glades, gardens and tranquil parkland. You can also pay a visit to the Burrell Collection, which houses an impressive collection of artworks by Rodin, Degas and Cézanne, as well as late medieval, Chinese and Islamic art. Stop for a bite to eat in the Edwardian Kitchen Café. The Burrell Collection is also the recent recipient of The Museum of the Year Award 2023.
Walking Tour (from George Square, in the city centre): From £12
A range of walking tours are available daily from Glasgow’s original walking tour company. Spend an hour or two exploring the sights of the city, uncovering street art off the beaten track, or learning more about the life and works of the designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh. There’s also a whisky tasting tour available.
City Centre Mural Trail: FREE
One of the most famous Glasgow attractions is the street art. Follow this trail to admire these urban artworks which have enlivened walls and corners of the city centre. See standout creations by acclaimed street artists like Ali Wyllie, Art Pistol and Ejek, including the Spaceman on New Wynd by Wyllie and Recoat and the stunningly realistic Hand Shadow Puppets found on the Cowcaddens underpass by Rogue-One. The trail also features other famous examples of Glasgow street art, such as the life-like Four Seasons on Ingram Street and the vibrant murals framed by the rail arches on Clyde Street.
Sightseeing Bus: £16 for 1 day, £17 for 2 days
Discover Glasgow in 21 stops. There is a good map on their website. Nearest bus stops to the Grosvenor Hotel are stops 14 on University Avenue and 15 on Byres Road. This open-top bus tour is the perfect way to discover Glasgow. It offers a choice of recorded commentary via audio channels at every seat in 7 different languages as well as offering live commentary courtesy of our friendly, local and knowledgeable tour guides. The tour leaves from George Square and operates 7 days a week.
