The Harrisburg School District offers a variety of summer programs designed to support academic achievement, build confidence, and prepare students for success in the upcoming school year.

The Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) program is a federally funded initiative that provides summer learning opportunities for students in grades 3–4. Authorized under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) and amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), the program offers academic enrichment and tutoring to help students meet state standards in core subjects. Students participate in engaging activities such as STEM, arts and music, sports, academic support, social-emotional learning, and family engagement opportunities. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Transportation will be provided for students who qualify.

The BOOST Summer Program at MMSA is designed to support middle school students by strengthening social-emotional development while increasing engagement in STEM and enrichment activities in Math and ELA. Using district tools and data to identify learning gaps and preview upcoming standards, MMSA will focus on targeted intervention and enrichment in partnership with a local community organization. The program runs Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with transportation provided to MMSA and to the partnering organization for the second half of the day. Breakfast will be provided. Transportation will be provided for students who qualify.

The Extended School Year (ESY) Program is an invite-only opportunity designed to help students maintain the skills they learned during the school year and reduce learning loss over the summer. This six-week program supports students with significant disabilities by providing continued instruction to prevent regression in academic and social skills. Students participate in engaging, structured activities that reinforce learning in a fun and supportive environment.Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

The Migrant Summer Program is an invite-only program designed in alignment with PDE Migrant Education Program guidelines to support students’ academic and developmental needs through targeted instruction. The program integrates STEM learning, social-emotional development, and English language acquisition to promote academic growth. Through engaging and focused learning experiences, students build skills and confidence to prepare for the upcoming school year. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Transportation will be provided for students who qualify.

The Pre-K Counts Four-Day Summer Bridge Program is designed for current Harrisburg School District Pre-K Counts students who will enter Kindergarten in Fall 2026. Held at Melrose Elementary School, the program helps students build kindergarten readiness skills while becoming familiar with their new school community, routines, and expectations. Through engaging activities focused on literacy, math, social-emotional skills, and school routines, students gain confidence and excitement for a successful start to Kindergarten. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Transportation will be provided.

HBGSD’s RSIG Summer Camp Program is an invite-only, multi-week summer learning experience for students in grades K–12 designed to strengthen literacy, numeracy, and critical thinking skills through engaging, standards-aligned instruction and hands-on enrichment. This inclusive camp intentionally supports refugee students and integrates STEAM activities, social-emotional learning, and targeted academic supports. By addressing the needs of multilingual learners and students requiring additional intervention, the program promotes engagement, reduces learning loss, and prepares students for the upcoming school year. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Transportation will be provided for students who qualify.

The Summer Bridge Program serves as an introduction to high school and provides students with the opportunity to become familiar with the rigors and expectations of John Harris before beginning their high school career. Participation in the Summer Bridge Program is required prior to starting classes in the fall. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Transportation will be provided for students who qualify.

The Summer Bridge Program provides students with an introduction to high school and the opportunity to become familiar with the rigors and expectations of SciTech before beginning their high school journey. Participation in the program is required prior to starting fall classes. The program is designed to develop strong leadership skills and prepare students for success in college and their future careers. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Transportation will be provided for students who qualify.

The Summer Credit Recovery Program provides current HHS students in grades 9–12 the opportunity to earn credits needed for graduation that were not previously earned during the school year. Students in grades 9–11 may earn up to two missing credits, while 12th grade students may earn the credits necessary to graduate through EdGenuity. Students may enroll in the AM session (8:00 a.m.–11:00 a.m.), the PM session (12:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m.), or both sessions based on their individual needs. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Transportation will be provided for students who qualify.
