Getting started
Compare two files or folders inside the app
Open WhatChanged
Choose a left item and a right item
Press Compare
Enable Finder integration (optional)
Open System Settings
Go to Privacy & Security → Extensions → Finder Extensions
Enable WhatChanged
In WhatChanged Settings, add a folder to Monitored Folders
In Finder (inside a monitored folder), select exactly two items, right-click → What Changed…
Troubleshooting
I don’t see “What Changed…” in Finder
Confirm the Finder extension is enabled in System Settings
Make sure you’re inside a monitored folder
Restart Finder (or log out/in) after enabling extensions
The app says it can’t access files
WhatChanged is read-only and requires you to select files/folders (or monitor a folder) so macOS can grant permission.
Folder compare takes a long time
Large folders may take time to scan. Consider enabling ignore rules (hidden files, patterns, extensions).
