Your child is almost done with his/her last year at HMS. We want your son/daughter to start Freshman year with courses that fit his/her future goals, capabilities, and strengths.

They have started receiving classroom guidance about the following topics: Time-management,  requirement courses, prerequisite courses, transcripts, and credits.  By March they will be reviewing future electives.

Please know you are invited to contact me to schedule a transition to high school meeting or email/call with general thoughts and questions regarding your child's 9th grade courses.

If your child is in our Special Education Program, you will be receiving information from your child's case manager about a future transition to high school meeting this spring.

Sincerely,

The key is for your child to do well  (honors or non-honors courses)  Please keep in mind balance with academics, strengths, and goals for your child.

What are Advanced Placement (AP) courses?

Advanced Placement courses (AP) are college prep courses that students can take while at high school. Depending on strengths, interests, and goals, beginning in 10th grade, your child will have opportunities to look ahead to a variety of AP course options. Like Honors courses, AP courses have more rigorous curriculum. If your child passes the AP exam at the end of the course, your child will be able to have the course completed before college and resulting in saving time and money.
