Why are we doing a novel study?

We’re doing a novel study to help us become better readers and thinkers! When we read a whole novel together, we get to:

• Enjoy a great story – Reading a longer book lets us really get to know the characters and what happens to them.
  
  

• Learn new words – We’ll come across interesting words and talk about what they mean.
  
  

• Understand the big ideas – We’ll think about what the story is really about, not just what happens.
  
  

• Share our thinking – We’ll talk, write, and sometimes draw about the story, sharing our ideas with others.
  
  

• Build reading stamina – That means getting used to reading for longer and focusing for more time.
  
  

Most of all, we’ll have fun reading a book together and thinking deeply about it as a group.
