Darian Smith is a public health advocate. Darian created this project to help reduce gaps in access by offering families a simple, centralized hub of support services. With experience in family support and data coordination, she created Bridging the Gap to help families in Wayne County. She plans to pursue a Master of Public Administration to continue building systems that work for everyone.
Bridging the Gap is a community initiative dedicated to connecting families in Wayne County with accessible, trustworthy, and essential resources. Our mission is to reduce barriers to support by mapping out free and low-cost services, helping parents and caregivers find what they need, when they need it. Through this project, we aim to promote equity, well-being, and a stronger connection between families and the services designed to support them.
This map was created to help families in Wayne County—especially in Metro Detroit and areas outside of Detroit—find local resources for food, housing, healthcare, parenting support, and more. All listings are free or low-cost and focused on helping parents, caregivers, and children access the support they need.
