Crop Propagation

Breadfruit

Since 2016, we have conducted a propagation program for breadfruit in order to support the expansion of breadfruit agroforestry. We focus on providing volume orders of commonly requested varieties and also on expanding the varieties that are available.  As of 2023, we have propagated and distributed 6,500 trees, with over 500 trees donated to schools and non-profits across the state.  We use a variety of propagation methods, shown below, to propagate 18 varieties of breadfruit.  See our price list below and contact us to make an order!

Adventitious Shoots
We scarify roots to force dense shoot development, which are then treated as cuttings

Tissue Culture

In laboratory conditions, tiny meristem cuttings are rooted our in sterile media

Branch Cuttings

Small branch cuttings are kept in a high-humidity chamber until they cuttings can root

Air Layers

Air layering can cause rooting of branches while they are still attached to the tree
