North Shore Community Land Trust

About Internship Site

Background Information

In order to complete the tasks we were given we needed to be able to use different tools. We used pickaxes, rakes, sickles, and shovels. It was important that we had the skills of paying attention and being patient.  We also needed problem solving skills along with adaptability to figure out the best way to do things. As interns it was we needed to be able communicate with each other, volunteers, and our mentors.

When harvesting kalo there was a certain method to taking the whole plant from the ground. From the example of our Kumu we learned how to break up the roots of the kalo and properly harvest them. When planting ai ai by the fishpond there was procedure for picking and planting them.
