This primary source set contains a variety of documents related to the 1965 Pacific State proposal to annex the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands into the state of Hawaiʻi. The documents contained in the primary source set serve as an entry point into the local and global contexts for the proposal, the motives and aims of the proposal, and various actors’ responses to the proposal. The set includes a historical overview, key terms, primary sources, discussion questions, and recommended reading. This primary source set, which showcases materials from the Senator Hiram L. Fong papers, was created in 2023, in partnership with the Hawai'i Congressional Papers Collection, by Meagan Harden, 2022-2023 Hawaiʻi Congressional Papers Collection graduate student research fellow.
