Rain - It can rain, even if there’s sunshine (we call it liquid sunshine) so, bring an umbrella.
Temperature - It’s warm, except in air conditioned rooms (most of campus rooms have AC). A light sweater is always useful for indoors.
Sun - Bring sunscreen–the rays are powerful here.
What to wear - We suggest professional aloha attire. No suits or ties!
Holiday - Friday, April 18 is a holiday in Hawai‘i.
Activities (*make your reservations as soon as possible):
Diamond Head* - hiking
Pearl Harbor National Memorial* - historic site
Hanauma Bay* - snorkeling
‘Iolani Palace* - the only royal palace in the United States
Hiking - Oahu is home of an extensive trail network. The most accesible hike is Mānoa Falls, which is about 3 miles from the UHM campus. The hike to the falls and back is about 2 miles with a 400ft elevation gain. You can find basic maps for this and other trails within the Mānoa-Makiki-Nuʻuanu area in the unofficial AlohaTrailway map.
In 2019, the UH Board of Regents approved the creation of a new position, the UH Mānoa provost, to replace the UH Mānoa chancellor. The provost serves as a full chief academic officer for the campus and deputy to the UH System president in leading UH Mānoa as the flagship campus of the flourishing 10-campus UH System.
Today UH Mānoa is a research university of international standing offering a comprehensive array of undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees.
