My approach to teaching draws on Freirian traditions of problem-posing education and Kanaka ʻŌiwi understandings of aʻo (mutual shaping of teaching and learning). I try to make learning fun, meaningful, personal. At the end of day, if what and how I teach does not impact students' ways of being in the world (beyond the graduate classroom), then I am not sure what I am really doing! Teaching for me is a vocation--it is always challenging, unexpected, and full of lessons for becoming a better person.
