Hi, my name is Rylie! I grew up here on Oahu, living in Aiea but spending most of my time in town. I graduated from Hawaii Baptist Academy in 2015 and went on to attend undergrad at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, California. I doubled majored in Exercise Science and Psychology and also played four years of collegiate basketball in my time at Cal Lu! Although I've now retired, I still enjoy almost anything active, spikeball and boxing being my newest interests. While I've always been interested in the health sciences, it was through shadowing some of Hawaii's physicians in the summers of my undergraduate years that I decided I wanted to pursue medicine. I believe medicine perfectly blends my passion for nutrition and healthy lifestyle with serving others and gives me the greatest platform to share the gift of hope. I'm excited to learn from the journeys and experiences of the wonderful specialists we hope to host on this podcast, and hope you'll join us for the ride!
Heyo, it's Enze! I basically grew up in Hawaii on Oahu, but I spent my early childhood in China and in California. I graduated from 'Iolani High School, after which I attended Duke University where I majored in neuroscience. I played music all throughout my life, my main instrument being the violin, though I also enjoy playing around with the guitar, the piano, and the drums. I love playing pickleball, and I would love to play pickleball with you, whether you're new to the sport or a seasoned veteran! I decided to pursue medicine because of my love for music and ministry - two seemingly different fields, but in essence, they all deal with healing: of the body, the mind, and the spirit. My specific interests in medicine isn't set in stone, ranging from neurology to obstetrics to surgery, so I am excited to bring to you this new podcast series that will undoubtedly help me and hopefully help you find your specific interests in medicine! I can't wait for you to join us on this journey!
Hi, my name is Royce! I am from the island of Oahu, born and raised in Makiki. I graduated from McKinley High School in 2010 and then attended the University of Hawaii at Manoa where I majored in Biology. Following my undergraduate education, I attended graduate school at Tufts University in Boston and had the opportunity to attend numerous Red Sox games at Fenway Park in the fall and Celtics games in the winter. I love watching sports and playing basketball. I started playing organized basketball at the Boys and Girls Club of Honolulu and then for McKinley High School before returning to coach during my time as a college student at the University of Hawaii. I am very excited to learn more about different medical specialties from working on this new podcast and am looking forward to working with everyone to bring you awesome and very informative content to help you along your journey!
Welcome to Docs Talk Story! My name is Charissa, and I was born and raised on O‘ahu. I graduated from Mid-Pacific Institute in 2015 and continued my education in Mānoa Valley at the University of Hawaiʻi, where I studied Microbiology and Psychology. I enjoy exploring new hikes, discovering good food, and taking long naps. I also like playing pickleball, but not as much as some of the other hosts... Before starting at JABSOM, I worked in a clinical setting and realized how flexible a medical career could be. Physicians can use their degrees however they choose, including practicing and specializing in countless specialties, managing businesses, and advocating for public health reform. I am so excited to have the opportunity to speak with our guests and share their journeys with all of you!
Hi my name is Jaimee! I grew up on Oahu and was born and raised in Mililani. I graduated from ‘Iolani School in 2016 and attended the University of Hawai’i at Manoa for undergrad, majoring in Biology and minoring in Public Health. I enjoy using art as a way to relax and express myself, but my newest hobby is bamboo pole fishing! My interest in medicine grew when I was in high school after caring for my grandpa as he suffered through cancer. His spirit of service inspired me to pursue medicine, a field which combined my love of science with my desire to serve the people of Hawai’i. Medicine is a vast field and I’m excited to learn more about the experiences of various amazing specialists through this podcast. I hope you join us on this journey and learn a lot along the way! :)

Thank you for visiting "Docs Talk Story". When Rylie, Enze, and Royce approached me to share their idea, I immediately loved it. I'm honored to be their informal faculty advisor for this project.
I am currently a Professor of Medicine at the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine, working out of the Office of Medical Education. I've been at JABSOM for a while(!), and some of my past positions with the school include the Director of the Office of Medical Education (2000-2009), Associate Dean for Medical Education (2009-2015), and Interim Director of Faculty Affairs (2016-2017).
I am a proud 1989 graduate of JABSOM, and completed my residency training in general internal medicine, a fellowship in general internal medicine, and the AAMC Fellowship in Medical Education Research. My love for teaching and education led me back to school and I earned my Masters Degree in (Medical) Education from the University of Southern California in 2000. I'm board certified in internal medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.
There is nothing I enjoy more than teaching medical students and residents, but when I'm not at work I also really enjoying coaching high school basketball and fishing! Naps are great too...
