Pacific Syllabus Initiative - Resources

Based on the success of the online syllabus and bibliography collection created by the Asian Studies Development Program (ASDP) of the East-West Center and the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, the Pacific Studies Initiative (PSI) built an online collection for Pacific Islands studies syllabi. PSI was a joint project of the UH Center for Pacific Islands Studies, the East-West Center, Kapi‘olani Community College, and a number of cooperating institutions.

The purpose of the online collection is to make available instructional materials for teaching about the Pacific Islands region in a wide range of courses from elementary through graduate levels. College courses are the primary focus, but all levels are included. While the site includes material from specialized courses on the Pacific, it also aims to facilitate teaching about the Pacific in nonspecialized courses across the disciplines of the humanities and social sciences. The collection is envisioned as a cooperative venture among a network of participating scholars and institutions. By placing syllabi, reading lists and bibliographies online, the site also promotes dialogue on diverse approaches to teaching about the Pacific in a variety of contexts.

It offers an electronic gateway to poetry resources in Aotearoa/New Zealand and the Pacific region. PapuaWeb - A bilingual (English and Indonesian) website containing a wide variety of research materials about Papua, Indonesia, including a bibliography of recent publications related to Papua, a world wide web virtual library, annotated bibliographies, and a digital library. The website is in the initial stages of development and is sponsored by the University of Papua, Cenderawasih, and the Australian National University.

South Seas Online. A resource for the history of European voyaging and cross-cultural encounters in the Pacific between 1760 and 1800. Phase one of the this site focuses on James Cook's voyage of 1768-1771. Phase two will feature audiovisual media that illuminate the historical legacies of eighteenth-century Pacific voyaging and cross-cultural encounters.
