About the Internship Site
Background Information
The Atkins Kroll Summer Internship allowed students to rotate through key departments: Service, Body Shop, Parts, Sales, Admin, and Cashier. It was a hands-on learning experience focused on understanding daily dealership operations
The project aimed to help students explore real-world careers, gain professional experience, and develop skills such as time management, communication, and teamwork.
Students sought to understand: What does each department do? How do they work together? What tools and systems are used? What skills are needed in these roles?
Students expected that working across departments would improve their confidence, communication, and understanding of how dealerships operate as a team.
Students shadowed staff, completed daily tasks, asked questions, and wrote reflections. They used systems like CDK, Mitchell, Snap-On PC, and ALLDATA while participating in inspections, documentation, and customer service.
The internship introduced roles such as technicians, service advisors, parts specialists, body shop estimators, warranty processors, and administrative staff -- all of which require STEM-related skills and systems.
Students needed basic automotive knowledge, familiarity with digital tools, strong communication, professionalism, organization, and the ability to adapt and problem-solve in real time,

During my internship, I got to shadow and help out in different departments like the Body Shop, Service, Parts, Aftersales, Admin, and Cashier. I did a little bit of everything, like inspecting cars, organizing paperwok, helping with repair orders, and trying out the software they use such as CDK and Mitchell. I stayed curious, asked questions, and tried to be as helpful as possible while learning how everything works behind the scenes.
This experience really opened my eyes. I used to think a car dealership was mostly about selling cars, but there's actually a lot going on in each department. I learned how important teamwork and communication are, especially when things get busy. I also became more confident talking to people and handling real tasks. Even though, I'm going into nursing, the skills I picked up like time management, professionalism, and staying calm under pressure will definitely be useful in the future. I'm really grateful I got to be a part of this.
During my internship at Atkins Kroll, I was given the chance to rotate through various departments such as the Body Shop, Service, Parts, Aftersales, Admin, and Cashier. Every couple of days, I was placed in a different area, which gave me a broad understanding of how the company operates. In the Service Department, I assisted with vehicle inspections that helped generate repair orders. In the Aftersales Department, I reviewed those repair orders for accuracy, and in the Parts Department, I observed and learned from my mentor’s daily tasks. I also gained hands-on experience with industry software like CDK and Mitchell, which are essential tools used in dealership operations. Throughout the internship, I stayed engaged, asked thoughtful questions, and made it a point to manage my time well while maintaining professionalism and respect for others. I tried to contribute wherever I could and made the most of the opportunity to learn how the business runs behind the scenes
My internship at Atkins Kroll was an eye-opening and meaningful experience. Guided by supportive mentors, I gained practical skills and a deeper understanding of the automotive industry, especially the dedication required in customer service and operations. What stood out most was the emphasis on teamwork—learning that success depends not just on individual strengths, but also on collaboration. I also came to appreciate the demands of managing time, staying committed, and maintaining focus in a fast-paced environment. This experience reinforced the idea that nothing meaningful comes from laziness. Seeing the team’s dedication made me truly understand the value of hard work, responsibility, and integrity—not just in the workplace, but in life.
My contribution for the Atkins Kroll internship was very versatile, I would be put in different departments for about every 2 days. In the service department I would do car inspections which forms the repair orders, In the aftersales department I would be checking repair orders, and in the Parts department I would just shadow and learn as I watch what the mentor would do. I asked questions when needed, manage time properly, and be respectful to others during my time at AK.
During my time at Atkins Kroll, I was really terrified to be an intern there because of my lack of knowledge about cars, but once I had arrived, everyone and everything was very relaxed as I was working during the afternoon. My goals in this internship was to perhaps gain more knowledge about cars, how each department works, how a daily routine goes for the workers, and to gain skills like communication and more confidence. Overall, This internship was a really great way to see how real business works and to experience working in a professional setting. Training at Atkins Kroll had somewhat given me a look on what career pathway I would be following along.
During my internship at Atkins Kroll, I was assigned to the Body Shop, Service, Parts, Sales, and Rent-a-Car departments. In these branches, I was tasked to observe my mentors and adapt to their workspace and workload. When I was in the Service Department, my mentors assigned me to do vehicle inspections and call customers to remind them for their appointments for the next day or if their cars are ready for pick-up. For the other departments, I was shadowing them and following them around as they do their job while asking questions if I don't understand.
This internship was able to show me a glimpse of how it is to have a job. It gave me a wider perspective in more career opportunities. As I worked in each department, this made me realize that you should try to match your job with your strengths and interests. Doing something you love while being great at it will bring you wealth. Honestly, working at Atkins Kroll demonstrated how professionalism and customer service is crucial when working which is in experience worth remembering.
