Our goal as the Aloha Chapter of the American Meteorological Society is to foster interest in the field of meteorology and atmospheric science and serve as a professional organization for students, faculty, and local professionals at the University of Hawai’i and other scientific agencies across the State of Hawai’i. We are committed to advancing atmospheric science and related fields through scientific meetings, community outreach, and professional development. With the AMS Aloha Chapter, students, scientists, and professionals from around the State of Hawaii are able to interact and form a community of people with one common interest, weather. Benefits of joining AMS include unlimited access to AMS journal content (including Monthly Weather Review and Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society), access to AMS online forums, connections to a network of over 12,000 atmospheric scientists, and the ability to attend any of the AMS conferences. We have a few different types of regular meetings:
At our general body meetings, we provide a space for students, academics, and professionals to network and connect over current atmospheric science and weather-related projects and events. This is a space for us to learn from one another in our respective fields and foster our shared interest in atmospheric science. Food is provided!
At our weekly one-hour journal club, we pick a short academic journal article to read as a group and discuss our thoughts. Snacks provided!
Aside from our general body meetings and journal club, we organize activities such as hiking, beach cleanups, and beach days for our members to get to know one another!
