- Design and implement research projects on climate variability and extremes in the Asia-Pacific region. Lead interdisciplinary teams, including social scientists, agronomists, economists, and climate modelers.
- Analyze global climate model outputs, regional downscaled climate projections, perform bias correction procedures, data quality control, and multivariate spatial regressions. Contribute to NASA-funded Rice project in Southeast Asia. Fieldwork in Thailand conducting social science interviews with farmers.
- Supervise post-doctoral researcher in Drought Knowledge Exchange project, Pacific Islands. Collaborate with local, state, and federal stakeholders and partners. Field Research Assistant – University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, Department of Geography, Honolulu, HI, 11/14 – 8/15
- Forest Line Project : Sap flow and ecophysiological measurements of trees above and below forest line on windward Haleakalā, Maui, HI (~7400 ft. elevation). Research and help build sap flow sensors, hiked up to 16 miles per day in rough terrain. Planned logistics for trips, coordinated with Haleakalā National Park about back-country protocols, completed A-100 helicopter safety training. Collected GPS data; analyzed and quality checked sensor data; maintained climate stations and analyzed data. Supervised an undergraduate intern for 3 months. MODIS remote sensing data analysis for study area.
Research Assistant – University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, Department of Geography, Honolulu, HI, 7/09 – 8/16
- Rainfall Atlas Project: Updated the Rainfall Atlas of Hawai‘i: compiled data and performed quality control, updated rain gauge station coordinates, learned VBA and R programming, performed geostatistical interpolation of the data, gave presentations for funding agencies, wrote reports, formatted final maps, edited and helped design the web site and interactive map, completed a GIS analysis for new station locations. - Evapotranspiration Project: Generate GIS layers of climate data for over 40 variables. Assisted with website design and editing. Processed and converted all map layers, produced map images, and uploaded to the websites. Supervised an undergraduate student to perform coding and GIS tasks (python and VBA) to help process map files. Final products can be found here: ET Website, Solar Website, and Climate Website.
- Month-Year Rainfall Maps Update Project: Updated the month-year rainfall maps for the State of Hawai‘i through 2012. Supervised an undergraduate student to perform coding, GIS and geostatistical interpolation tasks (python and VBA), as well as data downloading, data entry, and data gap filling, database management, and GIS layer processing.
