Mr. Leftin

My name is Mr. Leftin, and I'm excited to begin my sixth year as Middle School Band Teacher for the Haverhill Public Schools! I graduated from the University of Delaware in 2012 with a Bachelors in Instrumental Music Education. I also hold a Masters Degree in Special Education from Lesley University

For the past nine years, I have played bass trombone with the New Philharmonia Orchestra, based in Newton, Massachusetts, The Sharon Concert Band, based in Sharon, MA and the Roy Scott Big Band, also based in Sharon, MA. I am also an active freelance musician, performing in orchestras for local musical theaters around Massachusetts. Recently, I have served as the Assistant Conductor of the Needham Community Band in the summer of 2017, and am serving my third year as President of the Sharon Concert Band and Roy Scott Big Band.

I believe that Music Education, particularly instrumental music, is an important part of every child's education. Playing an instrument is a lifelong activity. When you start an instrument in 5th or 6th grade, you are joining a larger community of musicians that you can be a part of throughout middle school, high school, college, and beyond!
