The Lower Merion Climate Action Coalition begins with Lower Merion’s educational community. As the educational institutions of Lower Merion Township, ours is the task of preparing young people for citizenship in the future. Students’ lives will be significantly shaped by the decisions and actions taken today that affect our local environment. Locally and globally, natural resources are being consumed at unsustainable rates and in ways that have a harmful effect on the environment.
Our local government and institutions have a role to play in preserving and protecting our environment through the stewardship of built and natural resources and the education of citizens. Responsible, forward-looking decisions in the Township today should prioritize sustainable development; conservation of energy and natural resources; and enhancement of the quality of life. In so doing, we can help to ensure future generations of students and their schools have the natural resources, economic opportunities, and critical infrastructure they need to thrive.
