Kintsugi
We have been looking at philosophy for the last couple of months (including lockdown). The concept that we looked at this week is 'kintsugi'. This is the Japanese philosophy and art form or taking broken pottery and repairing it using glue mixed with gold dust. Philosophically the children have discussed the importance of identifying something they can improve or "make more beautiful than it was before". So as a physical metaphor for the students some have been bringing in things that are damaged/broken or they can break so they can repair them. While we repair these items we talk about what they would like to fix/improve about themselves or their work, the kintsugi they make then becomes their physical symbol of that. Below the students photo is a short video explaining Kintsugi.
