Our children are simply not getting the opportunities they need to learn how to invent, develop, and innovate. They do not have enough opportunities to engage in the processes of STEAM fields in meaningful ways at an early age. Every job, even the ones you wouldn’t expect, will require at least basic STEAM skills. Research shows that these skills are transferable and needed in every job sector. STEAM education provides the underpinnings for every child to be successful in college, work, and life. At The STEAM Academy, our students are problem solvers, innovators, inventors, and logical thinkers. Technology is advancing so quickly our children need to be ready for jobs that don't even exist yet. The opportunities of the future belong to the innovators, the entrepreneurs, and those in the fields of STEAM.

It is with great pleasure that we take this opportunity to welcome you to Lillie Burney STEAM Academy. Our school offers students a unique educational program that supports and supplements the College and Career Readiness Standards. Our program is designed to engage students in the learning process and to help them develop the necessary skills to be college and career ready. Our teachers will be working in teams to design and develop lessons that are cross curricula, which enables students to make relevant and long lasting connections across content areas. Students will gain vital knowledge and skills by working for extended periods of time to investigate and respond to a complex question, problem, or challenge.

As students grow and learn, they will find joy and satisfaction in working closely with their peers and teachers toward a common goal. This best prepares them for their futures in education and the workplace. We are committed to providing the best education possible, but will require collaboration between parents, students as well as staff: that common commitment will be the key to our success here at the STEAM Academy. School and home can work together to build skills and knowledge, to reinforce values, and to develop a strong sense of self-worth.
