Reading and Writing Resources

As you would with any recommended reading, please preview these resources before giving them to your child. In addition to text difficulty considerations, some texts might deal with mature content or controversial topics.

Lexile levels are numbers designed to estimate the difficulty of a text. Our target reading levels per grade level are:

    • grades 2-3 420-820 Lexile
    • grades 4-5 740-1010 Lexile
    • grades 6-8 650-1000 Lexile
    • grades 9-10 1050-1335 Lexile

For success on the ACT and in college, a reader should independently comprehend texts at the 1200-1300 Lexile range.

Work with your student to create a reading plan: Commit to 30 minutes every night.

Choose a balance of informative to fiction text that follows College and Career Readiness guidelines:

* grade 4 50% informative to 50% fiction

*grades 5-8 55% informative to 45% fiction

*grades 9-12 70% informative to 30% fiction
