The Revitalize and Thrive Partnership Program is a bold, statewide initiative aimed at solving one of Nebraska’s most persistent challenges: talent retention and community revitalization. This collaborative effort brings together national revitalization expert Jeff Siegler, Hastings College Scott Scholars, and Nebraska communities to co-create vibrant, opportunity-rich towns that young people want to live in—and stay in.
The program is built on the belief that revitalization isn’t something done to a community—it’s done with it. Through student-led projects, expert mentorship, and community engagement, towns receive a tailored toolkit of strategies to strengthen their workforce, attract investment, and foster pride.
Align community efforts with the values and aspirations of young professionals.
Build entrepreneurial ecosystems and support hands-on student leadership.
Create playbooks and toolkits tailored to each participating community.
Strengthen local identity and pride through visible revitalization efforts.
Improve talent retention with real opportunities for civic and economic engagement.
In 2022, the state lost over 4,000 adults with a higher education degree, and continues to lose over 1,000 people under the age of 25 to outside states.
Youth outmigration
Struggles to recruit and retain workforce
A need for visible revitalization and community pride
This program helps reverse those trends by:
Giving young people a reason to stay
Helping towns feel alive and invested in
Building leadership pipelines for the future
Each community co-creates a strategy guide based on its unique challenges and opportunities. This isn’t a one-size-fits-all plan—it’s a tailored roadmap informed by:
Input from local leaders and residents
Economic data and trends
Student research and fieldwork
National expertise from Revitalize or Die
The Playbook includes actions your community can take immediately and longer-term strategies to build momentum.
You’ll get hands-on consulting from Jeff Siegler, a nationally recognized leader in community revitalization, plus:
Workshops and on-site visits
Strategy sessions with economic development professionals
Best practices from across the country and state
Communities work directly with a team of 3–5 highly motivated Hastings College student interns, who contribute:
