The DLL student worker for 2024-2025.
3-5 hours/week, flexible schedule
This student worker position will support the Department of Languages and Literatures in a variety of department tasks. Specific duties will depend on department need and student interest but might include the following:
Supporting and monitoring DLL social media
Coordinating, promoting and helping to plan DLL events (e.g., Banned Book Week celebration, monthly social activities)
Updating the DLL website
Supporting faculty in managing the NE Scholastic Writing Awards contest
Writing original posts for the department's blog, The Gold Room
Soliciting projects and writers for the department's blog, The Gold Room
Assisting faculty in office tasks - organization, scanning, etc.
Promoting student projects, presentations, and achievements
Developing content for the Student Academic Resources site

Sigma Tau Delta is a national English honorary society. The organization sponsors regional and national conferences, and our local chapter sponsors local events such as book sales and pub trivia. The Spanish Club is a fun and casual group open to members of the Hastings College community and the larger Hastings community. The Gold Room is the blog site for the Department of Languages and Literatures. Students, faculty, and friends of the department are welcome to share their work (essays, literary reviews, informal thoughts on books, movies, and other media) on a public platform. The Cell Phone Film Fest has become an annual event at Hastings College. Participants are given 48 hours to write, shoot, and edit a short film. Volunteers are needed to plan, coordinate, and judge the contest. Contact Dr. Patricia Oman (poman@hastings.edu) for more info.
The DLL hosts the Nebraska regional contest for the Scholastic Writing Awards, a creative writing contest for middle and high school students. Volunteers are needed to judge the contest (December) and serve as college ambassadors at the annual awards ceremony (February). Interested in helping out?
