The Humanities are the study of human experience. Humanists apply a variety of critical methodologies to the close study of written and visual texts to understand how people across cultures and time periods record, interpret, and create what it means to be human. Humanities departments at Hastings College include History, Languages and Literatures, and Philosophy and Religion.
The mission of Hastings College’s Humanities Division is to foster ethical and empathetic study of human experience through critical thinking and close textual analysis. By exploring questions of value, purpose, and meaning, students will learn how to think creatively and critically, to reason, and to become life-long learners.
