The Committee for Human Subjects Research is a permanent subcommittee that reports to the Faculty Affairs Committee. It consists of elected faculty members and an institutional researcher, with varied representation from the following areas:
Math, Science, and Business Division
Division of Education and Social Sciences
Fine Arts and Humanities Division
Hastings College Institutional Researcher
The first two divisions in the list above represent the divisions/departments whose members are most likely to conduct research involving human subjects, while the remaining division/department is to ensure divisional representation on the committee. In certain cases, the committee may also call in a non-voting consultant (who could come from off campus) to help with its deliberations. Members serve for as many terms as they wish and new members are nominated by the committee and presented for approval by the Faculty Affairs Committee and then the Faculty Senate. The full committee will meet as needed throughout the academic year, usually just in cases that require full committee approval.
