The speech season is just about to get started and everyone is getting their practices in for the first meet in Jamestown on January 24th.
COMING SOON
The FCCLA wore Edyn’s tribe shirts in support of the Storbecks and the challenges they are facing. If you haven't heard, Edyn, their daughter, is a few months old and currently in the Aurora Children's Hospital with heart complications.
Her mother, Corbin Storbeck, who is our teacher at the high school, has been with her for every step of the way the past few months. There has been a few fundraisers to help the family. We sold t-shirts and sweatshirts and are currently selling bracelets. In December, there was a hotdish cookoff which had a great turnout. Thank you to everyone that supported the fundraisers and bought a shirt or sweatshirt. It means a lot to Edyn and her family. The bracelets that we are selling for Edyn are currently still available at the high school in Connie’s office and Service Drug.
In January, she had surgery which went as expected but there are still unanswered questions about what is next for her medical journey. Edyn has been more active recently and really enjoys tummy time. We are hoping to have the Storbeck family home soon!

Before Christmas break, there were many fun dress up days, as well as Christmas Bingo. My favorite dress up day was the Christmas explosion. I loved seeing everyone's christmas-y gear throughout the week. Speech is starting soon, with the first meet on January 24 in Jamestown. Practices have already started, and they have been very eventful. The senior class is going to a court case next week on the twenty-second, which will be very fun. In Anatomy, we have been making our skeleton muscle model, and plan to add onto the model very soon. The only final I am worried about is my College Algebra final, because it is math. I am excited for the new year, and new (second) semester.

Back at school, the juniors are preparing for final tests in their classes and giving speeches in English. They wrote speeches on a wide variety of topics that had a “did you know” fact. In extracurriculars, FCCLA members are preparing their STAR events for districts in February and FBLA members are choosing tests to participate in at state in March. Speech is also getting started with participants getting back into it with some practices to prepare for their first meet on January 24th in Jamestown.
Before break, they had a fun day full of activities and games including sugar cookie decorating, board games, and dodgeball as well as a competitive game of scooter hockey where each class put forth a team and battled it out.
Hey Hornets! It has been a busy two weeks back from Christmas breaks as the juniors are doing their finals while trying to recover their sleep schedules. Many are still trying to find their groove again after not having to think about math or science for two whole weeks.
There has also been many basketball games and wrestling meets where the juniors have played! All grades have been taking states tests as well, so for a while it seemed the tests would never end! Luckily the 16th of January is the last day of the first semester and tests will be more spread out.

2026 is here which means the dreaded finals are as well. Fortunately, this year finals for sophomores, juniors, and seniors are not required, as long as you meet the necessary standards.
The week before Christmas break was exciting. All the dress up days leading up to the fun Friday, which was also the day we had an early out. The only game we played was floor hockey, it definitely got the best of the students. It was a competitive game and quite rough as well, resulting in the seniors' victory. In the afternoon junior high and high school kids split up to play more games. The high schoolers played a variety of board games and dodgeball in the gym while the junior high kids went to the classrooms for crafts and cookie decorating.
Throughout the week small geese with hats were hidden around the school for students to find and trade in for a treat. Apart from all those events the most amusing one was the teacher rivalry started by some of the sophomores. These sophomores decided to be kind people and gift the teachers a Christmas present. The teachers took this the wrong way and ended up having beef with us and each other. We had teachers turning against each other left and right. This caused the creation of AI or canva made posters. Unfortunately for us, Mr. Schuh had his own army to tear all of these down even though he was the problem. Anyway the fighting was over when the teachers finally opened up their gifts before Christmas break was over. They were all very content with their gifts.
Girls and boys basketball has been traveling far. They went to Bismarck together on December 29 to play against Central McClean and Edgly.
All in all, 2025 was great but we think 2026 has more memories and activities awaiting.

As the freshman class is finishing up the first semester, we are studying hard and taking our finals. In our english class, we are having a final on poetry terms, literary terms, William Shakespeare, and Romeo and Juliet. Our geometry final is just as hard where we have to answer questions from every single lesson we’ve done so far this school year. We have our science final coming up as well where we will be quizzed on the different types of energy and will be making complex equations to find power and work.
Looking way back before 2025 ended, the freshman class was having lots of fun around Christmas time. We decorated the shop door as a snow globe and won first place for a free week of Membean. We gave the Christmas games our all, where we had an intense game of scooter hockey. We were knocked out in our first round against the sophomores, but we still had plenty of fun and managed to last for a while. The smaller activities were a hit. Freshman were doing all sorts of things from playing dodgeball and decorating cookies, to winning a game of candyland and playing blackjack. The freshman class overall had lots of fun and was definitely ready to head into the new year.
Looking back at some of our freshman classes again, the choir class is splitting into groups as they prepare to have a mini concert within the class for one another as a fun project. In physical science, we just finished presenting about simple machines where each group had a different one assigned to them. Other than that, the freshman class is just ready to head into the second semester of the school year and get them one step closer to summer break.
Hello 2026! It truly feels like the months are flying by, between snow days and Christmas Break we’ve had quite a bit of time off in December and now we're heading into finals week. Since freshmen don’t get a chance for finals to get excused, everyone in our grade has to take them, so if you see us with our noses in the books know that’s why. Winter sports are in progress and athletes are only getting busier.
The wrestling team is starting to push harder with the thought of regionals approaching. Basketball is also kicking it into gear as their schedule seems to just keep getting busier. Although sports and extra activities are going on, so is school, so make sure you're still studying for finals because they're right around the corner. In Ag class we are now working with animal science and we’re learning how to weld (which might be a little harder than it looks!) We have welcomed new Student-Teachers to the school; Ms. Kvaumme (Ag class) , Mr. Verbitsky (Facs class) and Ms. Boe (Science). In Facs we are going to start up sewing in a few weeks, and right now we are memorizing the creed along with baking/ cooking every week.
Some students are going to compete in the FCCLA parliamentary procedure (younger division) so we’ll also be covering that in Facs class as well. An exciting announcement on behalf of the 9th grade french class, a trip to France and Italy is being planned for the summer of ‘27 for their class, fundraising will be taking place. That’s the scoop on what we’ve been up to after Christmas break!

Christmas break was a great relief for us 8th graders as we were working hard on our finals the last week of school, whether it was math, english, science, or really any other subject. It was just really good to get a break, but know we are back and ready to start 2026 and the new semester! Now that we are coming and adjusting back to school we are starting new homework assignments before finally ending our first semester.
Starting our new semester next week will be a great opportunity for all of us to start fresh. Many kids are hoping to improve their work ethic and themselves, as they want good grades. Math homework and english has been getting harder and more challenging for everyone in our grade, but we are all ready for the new challenge and very ready to take it on.
Many kids in our grade have taken an interest in joining speech and they all seem very excited to start their speech season, while many other kids are focusing on sports and school. We are all extremely excited for our time capsule that we will be putting together for social studies. The time capsule will be opened in 12 years by the preschoolers now, which will be a very interesting thing for them to see. Let’s start the 2026 year off strong and Happy New Year!

To start things off I will talk about finals, and Christmas break. First, I’m pretty sure all/most of 7th grade was nervous about finals. This was the first year for us doing finals. Between the test taking and the waiting for results, I’m not sure which one is worse. Finals to me are really just a big test to determine your final grade whether you go up or down a grade, or maintain the grade you already have.
Now enough about tests let's talk about Christmas break. Christmas time is just the best time for families to spend time together and celebrate the birth of Jesus. It is also the time to decompress a bit for younger and older kids. I like to hear all about the gifts people get.
Lastly, to wrap up everything, finals or break have fun, make a little room for school too.
