All students' absences are considered unexcused until a written excuse is provided, which must be given to the school within three days of returning.
Only five parental excuses will be accepted each semester.
Excused absences include: personal illness, hospitalization, principal-approved emergencies, family death, court subpoenas, religious holidays, and other approved absences.
Parents/guardians must provide a signed written excuse with the date, student’s name, reason for absence, their signature, daytime phone number, and email address, if available.
Per the Student Handbook/Code of Conduct (pg 17):
Students who are absent are required to make up work missed in each class. It is the student’s responsibility to obtain all make-up work from his/her teacher(s) immediately upon return to school. Only in extreme cases of prolonged absences will more than one week be allowed for work to be made up. Grades will be held in the event make-up work is not turned in and will lead to failure if the situation is not remedied immediately. Long term assignments such as research papers, special projects, etc., are due on or before the due date even if the student is absent on the date the assignment is due.
To help students adjust to a new grade, we relaxed make-up work rules in the first nine weeks. In the second nine weeks, we will follow our standard policy more closely, but teachers can still assist with special situations or extended absences.
Encourage your student to talk to their teachers and check their planners for assignments. They should also look at Google Classroom for missed work.
Thank you for supporting students in taking responsibility for their learning.
Per the Student Handbook/Code of Conduct (pg 17):
Any student who arrives to class after school has begun must go to the office and check-in. Checking in after the bell rings or checking out before the bell rings will be marked as a “TARDY”. Students who have a valid need to leave school before the dismissal bell shall be checked out at the office. Such students must be signed out by the parent or guardian. Telephone calls shall not be accepted for purposes of checkout of a student without the approval of the principal. Students who check out ill and miss over 1⁄2 of the school day will need to provide a written excuse upon returning to school, even if sent home by recommendation of the school nurse. The principal has the responsibility of making decisions relating to checkouts. Such decisions shall be made in the best interest of the student.
