Term 2

Our learning journey this term is called 'Wonderful World' and our lessons will be investigating the following statement:

All living things play an important role in keeping the planet healthy.

We will be following different lines of inquiry to help us discover:

  • How we can care for all living things.

  • How the planet requires us to work together in order to survive.

  • How human actions have consequences.

We had great fun using lego to create a marble run. After we had made them we tested them and they worked really well.

We enjoyed looking for things that were living, once alive and never alive in the woodland.

Since we had our half term break, the Autumn leaves have really started to fall.

Our outdoor learning are looks beautiful with them all over the ground. One afternoon the children had loads of fun sweeping them up, jumping in them and then throwing them to see how they danced in the air. It was wonderful to see their massive smiles and to hear the laughter.

The children also found lots of worms when they were digging in the mud area.

In Year 1 we learn about the different Seasons and how the outdoors changes. We had a lovely time getting muddy while we were planting some bulbs. We talked about what they needed so that they could grow. Hopefully we will see the shoots come up in the Springtime and then the plants will grow into flowers.

We used felt tips to create dots in the hearts. This is the style of Pointillism. The children chose which heart sizes they wanted to use and created their own designs. The felt ips were perfect for making the dot effects inside the shapes.

This week we have been in the woods making habitats for animals. The children thought about whether the habitat would need to be up in a tree, on the ground or even underground. They used the leaves and sticks in the woods to help them to mould, dig and build. Georgie discovered a half eaten apple that we had seen a squirrel eating earlier in the week and some children even found worms when they dug in the ground!

Elf Day!

Friday 4th December was Elf Day. We had a great day dressed up as Elves!

In PE we acted out being elves - we made the presents, wrapped them up, fed the reindeers, loaded the sleigh, delivered the gifts and then went home for cookies, a drink and a well earned rest!

Elf Sullivan led the Elf dancing which all the little elves loved! Thank you everyone for dressing up in such amazing outfits and for your kind contributions to Elf day.
