Dear Parents/Carers,
After nearly 19 years at Hartley I now bid you all farewell, as this is my last day at this wonderful school. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our parents and carers for the support shown to me over the years, both as a class teacher and, for the last five years, as Principal. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Hartley and will miss the children, staff and parents immensely. We are blessed here at HPA to have the best children and when looking through my photos of all of my classes I couldn't help but think 'I loved that class' for every single one! Being Principal for the last five years has allowed me to get to know and spend time with even more children and I have to say it is always a pleasure to walk into a class and be greeted by our friendly, well-mannered children who brighten my day with their enthusiasm for our school and their learning.
The time has come though for a new challenge and whilst I am sad to leave I am also excited to be starting a new adventure. I will do my best to pop back from time to time, so look out for me at PTA events and make sure you say hello!
I wish all of the children all the best for their remaining time at Hartley and for their futures at secondary school and beyond.
Have a wonderful break and Mr Mitchell and the rest of the staff will be looking forward to seeing you back on Monday 15th April.
Best wishes,
Nicole Galinis
Principal

Behaviour policy
Unfortunately, due to an increase in low level disruption in classes and behaviour incidents at Breakfast Club and Lunchtimes, we have made the decision to make some changes to the behaviour policy. After the spring break we will be reintroducing the visual aspect of the amber and red on the traffic light system. We will still be discrete about moving children's names, but we do feel that it may be helpful for children to be able to 'see' where they are and work towards being back on green if they should happen to be on amber or red. At the moment it seems to be 'out of sight is out of mind' for many! In addition, the lunchtime supervisors and breakfast club staff will be dealing with behaviour incidents immediately, rather than relaying things to class teachers for them to deal with, which has proved very challenging for all concerned. We hope that dealing with issues immediately will mean that children can then move on and enjoy their day without consequences being delayed. The Senior Leadership team has liaised with staff about this and staff are all in agreement that a change is needed. This will be reviewed before the end of the academic year to see if further changes are required. Our new policy will be available to view on our website shortly.
Breakfast Club
Those of you who have been using our Breakfast Club facility will already be aware of some changes that are being made to the organisation/booking system for Breakfast Club, so that we are now using ParentPay. Spaces will be limited to 85 per session and places must be booked in advance. Please do not turn up at the door expecting your child to be admitted to Breakfast Club, unless you have booked a space! All pupils attending must arrive by 8.20am. This is so that staff can be supervising children rather than waiting at the door to sign children in.
Attendance Term 4
Please have a look at our attendance policy to make sure you are aware of our procedures regarding lateness and unauthorised absences.
We have a number of classes who have done really well with their attendance, as you can see below:
Term 4 attendance data:
Well done to Cedar class for achieving a fantastic 99% attendance this term and to Willow and Cedar for being the most improved!
Well done as well to Elm, Sycamore, Chestnut and Cedar classes for achieving over 95% attendance every week this term - wow!
(data based on attendance up until and including Wednesday 27th March)

Free School Meals
If your child is under 19 and in full-time education, you may be able to get free school meals for them if you receive certain benefits. The quickest and easiest way to check whether your child is eligible for free school meals and to apply is via the KCC website:
https://www.kent.gov.uk/education-and-children/schools/free-school-meals
If your child is already registered for free school meals, you do not need to reapply. If you’re not sure whether your child is already registered, please call the school and we can check our records, or you can contact KCC on 03000 416464.
