This term, we will be following different lines of inquiry, to help us to find out about how “Belief and value systems can offer explanations about the world around us. ”
Our lines of inquiry include:
People have many different beliefs - causation.
Our values and beliefs as individuals, a community and global citizens - perspective.
Exploring values and beliefs - form.
Week 1
In outdoor learning this week, we enjoyed creating pictures, inspired by 'The Dot' written by Peter Reynolds. The Dot is a book which encourages children to be able to do anything, even if we start small. Below are some of the pictures the children created, starting with a 'dot'.
The children have been very excited this week about using the Chromebooks! Every minute there is a, 'When can we go on the chromebooks?' whisper from somewhere in the classroom. The children have learnt to:
Log in to the Chromebooks
Find work on the Google Classroom for their learning slides
Follow along on learning slides when being taught
Use the slides to complete work in their books
Bookmark websites that we will use often to make it easier to access resources
Play on Times Table Rockstars
Use 'Ed Shed' - our new platform for spellings
We are so proud of how much they have learnt in such a short space of time!
Week 2
The children went on a vocabulary hunt around our woods to find the definitions of our key vocabulary this term. They thoroughly enjoyed completing this in groups and were very ecxited to find all the words.
The children have been learning about Frida Kahlo in Art, linked to our unit of inquiry.
We have also thought a lot about what our own beliefs and values are.
Week 3
Wow! What a week! The children were very excited to have brand new Chromebooks and have been fantastic at looking after them so far. The children have written some wonderful diary entries about our class reader, 'The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse.' To end the week we celebrated TTRS day - don't the children look fantastic!
Week 4
This week, all of the children in the school participated in an Arty Party workshop to create a piece of art work for our school hall. Year 3 were one of the first classes to start the art work off - see below for some pictures!
The children have been reading the book, 'The Day the Crayons Quit' in our reading lesson and for our unit of inquiry. They got to assume the role of a coloured crayon and then were 'hot seated' to be asked questions. The children thoroughly enjoyed this :)
Week 5
In our science this term, we have been looking at healthy eating. We have explored what we need to make a balanced diet and looked at food labels to see how much sugar different drinks have in them. The children were surprised to learn how much sugar milk has in it. This created many discussions about good and bad sugars.
Week 6
In week 6, Year 3 were lucky enough to have a Youth Worker come to visit us and talk about their career as well as their beliefs and values. This has linked nicely with our unit of inquiry this term, as well as giving children another career idea for the future. The children asked some fantastic questions. Lynne said, 'Both classes were a delight to chat with and their questions were so insightful. '
