Monthly newsletter
I am looking forward to getting to know your student even better as the school year continues. My goal for this year is to help your child be an independent and responsible learner, as well as to show him/her how to make responsible choices. To accomplish this goal, there will be homework, and we will be making the most of our class time. My expectations for the students are individually high, and they will need to work hard and do their best!
Teacher Pages
All of the teachers have web pages here at the high school. They have information about themselves and their classes so you can get to know them better. The websites will also have a link to their lesson plans. This will help your student and you with missing work and assignments. You can find the pages by going to the website, clicking on high school, and then on teacher pages.
Tests/quizzes/assignments/grades
Infinite Campus is a great resource if you want to look at your students’ grades, assignments, and missing scores. They are updated weekly by the teachers. Students will receive letter grades for their classes in the SCI classroom and for the general education classes. If a student does not pass a class, they are required in high school to retake the class to achieve the 54 credits. We will do everything we can within my classroom to help your child be successful in the general education classes without doing it for them! We will accommodate appropriately depending on the assignment/test/project and your student.
Homework
Homework is mandatory if they do not get the assignment finished in the allotted time in class. You can always check Infinite Campus to see if there are missing assignments for your student. If your student needs help remembering what they have for homework, an assignment notebook can help them fill out would be beneficial. If your student is absent from school or misses a class for an appointment, it will be their responsibility to get the assignments and they are due the next day after they return.
Involvement
During the school year, we will have visitors who will come in and collaborate with me and the staff. They will be from Hope Haven, Voc Rehab, and NCC Transition Services. Previous students have truly enjoyed working with these services, and we will continue to utilize them to further your students’ transition services! If your student is not already signed up for Voc Rehab services or a Hope Haven waiver, you will see paperwork coming home.
