Welcome to HMS Middle School in Sanborn. We have 190 students and 22 teachers in grades 5-8. Our philosophy is that all students are important to us; we do whatever we can to help our students be successful.

I grew up in Rock Valley, Iowa, and attended South Dakota State University for my bachelor's degrees and masters. I have been in education for 25 years, teaching science for several years before becoming a principal. I have been a middle school principal for 20 years, 17 of those at HMS. My family includes my wife Nicole and my children Casey, Hunter, and Johanna. Casey is married to Valorie and lives in Polk City, Iowa. Hunter, a senior Computer Engineering student, attends the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, as does our youngest, Johanna, who is majoring in Biomedical Engineering. Outside of school, I enjoy fishing, woodworking, fixing guitars, singing, and attending HMS activities.
