Welcome to Physics at HSFC, congratulations on meeting the course entry requirements. If you are a new student with us this year you have probably received so much new information that your head is in a spin so here is what you need to know...
To study A level physics you will need the following:
You might wish to buy a course textbook to support you in your studies or a revision guide (available from college)
Google Classroom may be your most important tool for your A level physics course!
You will be given the code for your classroom at the start of your course
You will have 3 lessons per week, 2 with Lisa and one with Mark. For the first part of the year one of your lessons with Lisa will be a practical lesson, all practical lessons will be in G57.

You will have 3 examinations at the end of the two year course and this along with your practical work will determine your overall A level grade.
Induction refers to the first 3 weeks of the new college year, it is designed to give you a flavour of the A level courses you have chosen. It is possible for you to change course during this period if you feel the one you have chosen is not right for you. At the end of the induction period you will complete an assessment for each subject to ensure you are on the correct course. We will also monitor your independent study and your grasp of GCSE concepts.
Independent study is the work you complete outside of the classroom. It includes homework which you will be expected to hand in to be marked as well as additional study which may include making notes, working through the textbook, completing exam questions, online quizzes and so on. National guidelines are 4-5 hours independent study per week as a minimum. It is absolutely essential to your success at A level and it will be monitored weekly via Google Classroom.
You might want to start with Module 1 & 2 which will be covered during Induction in the module Foundations of Physics as well as some practical work.
