Date: Saturday 3/18/23
Time: 8.15-11 am. Tell your parents to pick you up at 11 am sharp.
Bring: water, backpack to store your water, club shirt, wear layers it'll be cold
Why? : Condors fly in that area and mistake trash and glass for food. As they consume them, they will die. This is an indirect conservation effort.
It will take 35 mins from Canyon Country. Plan accordingly. Be on time.
No bathroom there so go before you arrive. No cell signal either.

Direction: From Soledad coming from Canyon Country, go on Soledad Cyn, left on Commuter Way.
Bring: Club shirt, water bottle, a backpack/bag to hold your stuff so your hands are free, PANTS (so your legs won't be scratched up from bushes/thorns)
Our goal: We will walk across the street to help clean up the river bed along the bike path.

1st Event: River Rally (Cleaning up the river bed)
Our first event will be the River Rally. We will be cleaning up the Santa Clara River, aka "The Wash."
When it rains, that's where the water flows eventually to the Pacific Ocean. Less trash in the river bed means less plastic waste and pollution into the ocean, which harms marine wildlife.

-What to bring: club shirt, water, snacks, tennis shoes, a little drawstring backpack or something to carry your water bottle so your hands are free.
-Other info: Pls carpool or get dropped off if possible. There's going to be a lot of people there. Eat a little breakfast before arrival so you have energy for the clean up.
-Please keep the gloves they give you for other events. We will practice the 3R's-Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Let's reuse our gloves before recycling them (it still requires energy to recycle)

Event #5: St. Francis Dam Clean Up
What: Cleaning up a historic site where St. Francis Dam was built
Date: Saturday, Feb 9, 2019
Where: Valencia, off of Copper Hill & San Francisquito Cyn
Why: California Condors fly in that area. They are critically endangered. They mistake trash/glass bits for food. They can die after ingesting the glass bits. Cleaning up the area where they forage for food can help save them indirectly.
Time: 8.30 to 11.30 pm (Pls Be On Time)
What to bring: Water, snacks, tennis shoes
Other things to know:
-The collapse of this dam is the 2nd largest disaster in California.
-Pls carpool with someone. Go to the bathroom before coming since there’s no bathroom there.
-It takes 20 mins from Best Buy Valencia to this place, so it will probably take you 40 mins to get there from Canyon Country. Plan accordingly.
-Not great cell reception out in that area.
-Mind the speed limit & don't pass, no matter how slow the car is in front of you. Many accidents on San Francisquito Cyn.
-Come and sign up at lunch in Mr. Yong’s room (G-107) if you can come.

Wear: your new club blue t-shirt. If you don't have one, wear our old red shirt. If you don't have one, wear any blue shirt. (if no blue or red, wear a white shirt)
