To provide clarity and focus for curriculum, our social studies standards have been grouped into three categories. These groupings help guide planning, assessment, and collaboration across our district:
These were selected by Hart district teachers as the highest priority standards for student proficiency. They represent the key content and skills that all students must learn to be successful in the course and beyond. Instruction and district benchmarks will focus primarily on these standards.
These standards reinforce and build on the priority standards. They help provide important context, support student understanding, and offer flexibility for scaffolding and reteaching. Supporting standards can be woven into lessons and used for site-level common formative assessments.
These are enrichment standards that enhance and deepen learning. They provide opportunities for inquiry, connections across units, and project-based learning. Extending standards are great tools for challenging students and exploring broader historical themes, as well as allowing for individual teacher differentiation.
