Job Application Tips
10 Tips for completing a job application:
Type or Print neatly in blue or black ink!
Read and follow all instructions carefully.
Complete all information. If there are questions that do not apply, write “n/a.” Avoid leaving anything blank.
Do not give specific salary requirements. Write “open” or “negotiable.”
Always be truthful and do not over exaggerate on job titles or job responsibilities.
Tailor your answers to the job you are seeking.
Don't provide negative information.
Provide references and make sure that you have permission from the people that you list as references. References should be people who know your work habits, such as teachers, former employers, supervisors or members of organizations in which you have volunteered.
If you haven’t heard anything within a week after submitting the application, follow up with the company. Let them know that you are interested in the position.
Proofread your application before submitting it.

How to Prepare for an Interview:
DON'T BE LATE! Arrive 20-30 minutes early.
Do your research! Visit the organizations website and know the organization's background and mission statement.
Prepare responses and practice saying them out loud.
Dress professional. Conservative business attire, such as a neutral-colored suit and professional shoes, is best. Make sure your clothes are neat and wrinkle-free. Be sure that your overall appearance is neat and clean. Dress to impress!
Plan on what you need to bring such as: extra copies of your resume on quality paper, notepad or professional binder and pen, list of references, information you might need to complete an application, a portfolio with samples of your work, if relevant.
Smile, establish eye contact and use a firm handshake.
Sit up straight yet comfortably. Be aware of nervous gestures such as foot-tapping.
Many interviews end with “Do you have any questions?” Develop a question list. Prepare to ask about the organization or position based on your research.
Get directions ahead of time and know where you are going.
Follow up with a thank you note.
