CHANGE OF GRADE - CREDIT/NO CREDIT INFORMATION

Dear Hart District Students and Parents,

In light of recent circumstances with school closures and the sudden implementation of distance learning, the William S. Hart Union High School District is temporarily allowing students to request a grade of credit to replace a letter grade of A, B, or C for any course taken during the Spring 2020 term. Students who encountered unforeseen circumstances that severely impacted their performance and wish to make modifications to their grades should review this information before making a decision. If you are unsure if this is the right option for you, please reach out to your counselor to discuss your options.

Students who wish to request a grade change to credit, should submit the electronic form linked below.

Below is some additional information for students to consider prior to selecting the grade of credit option.

Graduation: The credit grading option will not affect the student’s ability to graduate.

Course Progression: The credit grading option will allow students to place into the next course in the sequence (for example Spanish 1 transitioning to Spanish 2).

Athletic Eligibility: All 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students who have passed at least 20 credits worth of course work in the spring and summer of 2020 will be academically eligible for competitions through the first grading period of the fall semester.

GPA: Grades of credit are not calculated into the GPA. A student requesting a grade of credit in place of A, B, or C for all courses will not receive a GPA for the spring semester. A student requesting a grade of credit for some courses and letter grades for other courses will receive a GPA calculated using only the courses with letter grades.

Scholarships: Grades of credit may impact eligibility for specific scholarships or sponsorships. Please be sure to reach out to any programs in which you participate to determine adverse effects to your eligibility.

College and University Admission: The chart below shows adopted grading policies in response to the COVID-19 pandemic as of May 2020. Students are advised to consult an institution's website for the most recent information. This information is often included in the “COVID-19 Response” section of the site.

REFUNDS

UPDATE 5/26/2020 - As of today, all refunds have been approved by district personnel. Unfortunately, we were still waiting on refunds and paperwork from vendors that we were using for end of year activities, but that is now all complete. With over 300 checks to be written, cut, and signed, it will likely take about a week for refunds to be placed in the mail. Thank you for your patience during this process.

We realize that we embarked on this school year with many fun events planned. We have a record of all students who paid for the Senior Fun Pack and will be working on refunding your money as soon as we can. If you purchased any of the end-of-the-year events individually instead of in the Senior Fun Pack, those will be refunded as well. (updated 4/29/2020)
