Here at Canyon High School, we want our students in the ELD program to be successful, and we understand that "success" looks different for everyone! Whatever a student's goal may be, we want to be there to support them.
En el instituto Canyon High School queremos que nuestros alumnos del programa de ELD alcancen el éxito, ¡y entendemos que el «éxito» es diferente para cada persona! Sea cual sea el objetivo de cada alumno, queremos estar ahí para apoyarle.
In all levels of Achieve classes, students regularly practice reading, writing, listening, and speaking in English. The goal is to develop their English proficiency, as outlined by the California ELD Standards. This is done through a variety of activities and lessons that meet students at their acquisition levels. Students also receive additional support from our bilingual instructional assistants (BIAs) in language acquisition and for their other classes.
En todos los niveles de las clases de Achieve, los alumnos practican regularmente la lectura, la escritura, la comprensión auditiva y la expresión oral en inglés. El objetivo es desarrollar su dominio del inglés, tal y como establecen los Estándares de ELD de California. Esto se lleva a cabo mediante diversas actividades y lecciones que se adaptan al nivel de aprendizaje de cada alumno. Los alumnos también reciben apoyo adicional de nuestros auxiliares docentes bilingües (BIA) tanto en el aprendizaje del idioma como en el resto de sus asignaturas.
Our BIAs support English acquisition for all students within the ELD program. They support students in both content-area classes and in Achieve. BIAs are also available for tutoring throughout the school year to provide additional support for those who need it. (The tutoring schedule will be made available after school begins.)
Nuestros BIAs apoyan el aprendizaje del inglés de todos los alumnos del programa ELD. Ayudan a los alumnos tanto en las clases de las distintas materias como en el programa Achieve. Los BIAs también están disponibles para ofrecer clases particulares a lo largo del curso escolar, con el fin de proporcionar apoyo adicional a quienes lo necesiten. Post-Secondary Support: In recent years, our students have had increasing opportunities to engage in career exploration in their Achieve classes. Through the Hart District's CTE (Career Technical Education) and Career Pathways programs, career professionals have visited classes and given students hands-on lessons in various careers, such as dental hygiene and forensics. We look forward to not just continuing, but expanding, these career lessons for our students! We have also had representatives from College of the Canyons (COC) visit our campus to introduce their offerings and help our students with registration. We plan to continue this opportunity for our students each year. We are also looking for other post-secondary program presentations to bring to our students, along with increasing support for college applications beyond what is already offered through our Parent Advisory Council (PAC).
Student Achievement Plans: New for the 2026-2027 school year! All students in the ELD Program will sit down with Mrs. Brower or another staff member at the beginning of the school year to review their assessment scores (such as ELPAC, CAASPP, IXL, district benchmarks, etc.) and grades from the previous school year(s). Students will be encouraged to reflect on their successes, identify areas for growth, and then set realistic goals for themselves for new school year. These goals will be reviewed with the student throughout the year to check on their progress. Through this process, students will develop skills in goal-setting, accountability, thoughtful reflection, and self-advocacy, empowering them to take ownership of their educational success
ELPAC Preparation: All students designated as English learners in the state of California are required to take the ELPAC assessment every Spring. Students prepare for the ELPAC by building up their English proficiency, which is supported by activities in their Achieve classes; however they should also be actively engaging and participating in all of their classes to expand their language acquisition! Beginning in the 2026-2027 school year, all EL students in the Hart District will be taking an interim ELPAC assessment in the Fall, which will provide them with a way to measure their progress before taking the summative ELPAC in the Spring.
Apoyo a la educación postsecundaria: En los últimos años, nuestros alumnos han tenido cada vez más oportunidades de explorar diferentes profesiones en sus clases de «Achieve». A través de los programas de Educación Técnica y Profesional (CTE) y de Itinerarios Profesionales del Distrito de Hart, profesionales de distintos ámbitos han visitado las clases y han impartido a los alumnos lecciones prácticas sobre diversas profesiones, como la higiene dental y la ciencia forense. ¡Esperamos no solo continuar, sino también ampliar estas lecciones profesionales para nuestros alumnos! También hemos contado con la visita a nuestro centro de representantes del College of the Canyons (COC) para presentar su oferta formativa y ayudar a nuestros alumnos con la matriculación. Tenemos previsto mantener esta oportunidad para nuestros alumnos cada año. Asimismo, estamos buscando otras presentaciones de programas de educación superior que ofrecer a nuestros alumnos, además de aumentar el apoyo para las solicitudes de acceso a la universidad más allá de lo que ya se ofrece a través de nuestro Consejo Asesor de Padres (PAC).
Planes de rendimiento académico: ¡Novedad para el curso 2026-2027! Todos los alumnos del programa ELD se reunirán con la Sra. Brower u otro miembro del personal al comienzo del curso para revisar los resultados de sus evaluaciones (como ELPAC, CAASPP, IXL, pruebas de referencia del distrito, etc.) y las notas del curso o cursos anteriores. Se animará a los alumnos a reflexionar sobre sus logros, identificar áreas de mejora y, a continuación, fijarse objetivos realistas para el nuevo curso escolar. Estos objetivos se revisarán con el alumno a lo largo del año para comprobar su progreso. A través de este proceso, los alumnos desarrollarán habilidades para fijarse metas, asumir responsabilidades, reflexionar de forma crítica y defenderse por sí mismos, lo que les permitirá hacerse responsables de su propio éxito educativo.
Preparación para el ELPAC: Todos los alumnos designados como estudiantes de inglés en el estado de California deben realizar la evaluación ELPAC cada primavera. Los alumnos se preparan para el ELPAC mejorando su dominio del inglés, lo cual se fomenta mediante actividades en sus clases de Achieve; sin embargo, también deben implicarse y participar activamente en todas sus clases para ampliar su adquisición del idioma. A partir del curso escolar 2026-2027, todos los alumnos de inglés como segunda lengua del Distrito de Hart realizarán una evaluación intermedia del ELPAC en otoño, lo que les permitirá medir su progreso antes de presentarse a la evaluación sumativa del ELPAC en primavera.
