To educate and spread knowledge and experiences of American Sign Language and Deaf culture of the Deaf community in the United States. The course will focus on expanding vocabulary, specific language, cultural behaviors and ASL grammar. Both expressive and receptive skills of students will be practiced, with additional emphasis placed on students’ expressive skills. Students will continue to participate in extensive interactive classroom activities to ensure immersion in ASL. Both students and instructor will use the “Voice-Off” policy for extended periods of time.

To build a community in the classroom where students feel safe to ask questions, answer and engage in discussion.
Build confidence to be able to voice their opinions during class discussions and debates, while continuing to establish a safe learning environment.
Engage and pique student interests to build receptive and expressive skills in American Sign Language and to learn about Deaf culture through naturalist opportunities
Enhance the ability to process information and build skills in critical thinking.
Continue to use and enhance abilities in using technology.
