ALTERNATIVE Transportation Resources for HART FAMILIES
Santa Clarita Transit services, which provides transportation for many of our District's students, will be disrupted due to a bus driver strike between the city's vendor, MV Transit, and the bus driver's union. We understand the impact that this will cause for Hart District families, and we continue to hope a strike can be avoided.
Our priority is to minimize disruption for our families and students, especially those that are most vulnerable, and to communicate updates to you and our families as we learn more.
We have prepared alternative options to minimize the effects for students and families whose Santa Clarita bus routes have high numbers of students riding them. We will not be able to replace all city bus routes used by our students. We will be relying on third party transportation vendors to accomplish this and routes may change daily based on availability of those vendor buses.
We strongly encourage all Hart District families, who utilize Santa Clarita Transit services, to make alternative transportation plans to get students to school and home again.

Which Santa Clarita Transit Routes Will be Affected by a Strike?
Santa Clarita Transit has shared that, as a result of the strike, they will suspend the following services:
1. All Commuter Service
2. Most Local Service, except for:
· Limited trips on Route 5, 6 and 12.
· Trips will be unable to follow a set schedule and instead consistently run back to back loops throughout the day.
· No tracking, bus finder, or SMS data will be working correctly during this time.
3. Most DAR Service, except for:
· Urgent medical appointments
4. Most tripper services, except for:
· Route 634
· Route 621
· Route 623
· Route 627
· Route 640
· Route 626
Will Hart District School Bus Routes Be Affected by a Santa Clarita Transit Strike?
No. Existing Hart District Home to School yellow bus services for Special Education students will not be affected.
What Is the Student Attendance and Lateness Policy In the Event of a Strike?
Students affected by a potential bus strike will not be counted as tardy due to transit issues.
If There is a Strike, How Long Should I Expect It to Last? How Will I Know When it Ends?
The Hart District is not part of the negotiations between the driver union and MV Transit, and does not have any further information related to its duration. The District encourages both parties to continue bargaining in good faith and hopes an agreement is reached as soon as possible for the benefit of its community and all involved.
If Santa Clarita Transit Routes Are Cancelled, What Services Will Be Available for Students?
Santa Clarita Transit and the Hart District are working closely to coordinate available resources.
Santa Clarita Transit will be prioritizing available resources to support student day tripper routes with the highest student ridership.
Existing Hart District Home to School yellow bus services for Special Education students will not be affected.
The Hart District has secured additional buses and drivers from third party charter bus companies to increase capacity for students.
While both the City and District are working to secure additional transportation resources, the Hart District does not have the capacity to assume the operations of all Santa Clarita Transit day tripper routes that will be canceled, should the union strike.
We strongly encourage all Hart District families, who utilize Santa Clarita Transit services, to begin making alternative transportation plans to get students to school and home again.

Will Field Trips and/or After School Programs Be Impacted In the Case of a Strike?
No. There will be no impact on these trips. The Hart District does not contract with Santa Clarita Transit for athletics or field trip transportation. Those trips are managed by the Hart District Transportation team.
