Year 7 Murder Mystery Challenge

In a thrilling turn of events, Year 7 students embarked on an unforgettable journey into the world of mystery and suspense. The Science corridors were transformed into a crime scene as students took part in a gripping Murder Mystery event.

Immersed in a captivating storyline, the young detectives were tasked with unravelling the enigma surrounding a shocking crime. With each clue and encounter, students demonstrated their sharp problem-solving skills, keen observation, and excellent teamwork. They eagerly examined evidence, carried out experiments, and pieced together the puzzle to unmask the culprit.

The event not only fostered critical thinking and deduction abilities but also ignited a sense of excitement and curiosity among the participants. With a palpable atmosphere of intrigue, the Year 7 students showcased their creativity and quick thinking, showcasing their potential as budding investigators.

The Murder Mystery event provided a unique opportunity for students to exercise their minds, indulge in an exhilarating adventure, and build lasting friendships. The school community eagerly anticipates future events that will continue to engage and inspire our young detectives.

Just Published!

One of our Year 8 students has written her own novel based on her experiences of growing up in Afghanistan and moving to the UK. Muska is a dedicated learner and engages in many extra curricular activities. With two performances in Shakespeare plays at the Beck Theatre under her belt and three poems already published on the school website, Muska is definitely one to look out for in the future! Muska's book will be available to order on Amazon.

Waterstones Trip

To kick off the final week of school, the Student Librarians (SLs) were treated to a trip to Waterstones in Harrow to select a book of their own choosing as a reward for their hard work over the year. The group of Year 7s and Year 9s have been instrumental in getting the library into shape and keeping it running smoothly. From the operational role of issuing and returning books to the creative demands of creating displays and bookmarks for everyone to enjoy, the SL’s have shown diligence, commitment and passion in contributing to their community. I am immensely proud of their work and look forward to what the new year will have in store for us!

Creative Writing Workshop

To celebrate National Writing Day 2023, Harrow High School had its first Creative Writing Workshop on Friday 26 June. A select group of learners, picked by their English teachers for their creativity, imagination and effort, were invited to partake in the workshop.

It opened with an improvisation game that encouraged the learners to build stories based on what the previous person said. This resulted in one very spooky horror story and one captivating mystery!

The students were then invited to spend the rest of the session working on their own piece of work. With the support of a few visual and written prompts, each learner created their own poem or story in complete silence.

As well as its many benefits, writing is an excellent method of self-care. The learners commented on how the silent, relaxed atmosphere allowed them to unwind and destress. The slower pace gave them space to take stock of their week and process their emotions in a calm environment. The end of the day came too soon for many students (and Ms. Rajeev and Ms. Z!) who raved about the workshop with one learner calling it an, “amazing opportunity to empower the writing skills of young people.” The entire workshop was thoroughly enjoyable and the work produced in a short amount of time was imaginative and insightful. Well done to everyone who participated!

Information on Apprenticehips

Apprenticeships are designed by employers so the training reflects the skills, knowledge and behaviours an apprentice will need for a particular occupation. Apprenticeship training is of a high standard and only training providers who are on the register of apprenticeship training providers can deliver the training. Working as an apprentice means they earn as they learn. An apprentice works in a real job and spends 20% of their working hours training. So they gain the skills needed for their chosen occupation.

Some apprenticeships include a qualification, including a degree. All of the training is free, so the apprentice has no student debt to worry about. A school or college leaver can apply for university and an apprenticeship at the same time. They can make their final decision after they’ve had time to consider their options.

In this edition, we find out how best to support your child in searching for an apprenticeship and who to follow on social media to support them in their journey. From September we will upload these on the website every month.
